CRIBBES LEADS PIONEERS TO VICTORY
FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Woman’s University soccer team scored three goals in the first half to beat Texas Wesleyan, 3-1, in non-conference action.
The Pioneers (2-3) struck first at the 9:34 mark as junior Melissa Williams scored her first goal of the season on a free kick assisted by freshman Sue Cribbes.
“We just dominated and played very well in the first half,” said head coach Fleur Benatar.
At the 20:16 mark, Texas Wesleyan scored to tie the game before TWU scored again within three minutes to take control of the game. Cribbes scored her third goal of the season unassisted off a free kick to give the Pioneers the lead, 2-1.
“We were able to score off set plays,” stated Benatar, “Sue did a great job in those situations.”
Sophomore Emily Meinen scored at the 26:40 mark to give the Pioneers some insurance off another Cribbes assist.
The second half was a defensive game, which went back and forth in the hot afternoon setting.
Freshman Krista Elbert was solid in between the posts allowing just one goal.
“Krista has done a good job in goal for us,” added Benatar, “Overall it was a good game and I am looking forward to Sunday.”
The Pioneers have their home opener, Sunday, Sept. 12, against Harding at their temporary home field, the Mean Green Soccer Complex, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
