FALL TO MEAN GREEN
DENTON –The Texas Woman’s
University soccer team fell to North Texas , 5-0, as the
cross-town rivals met at the Mean Green Soccer Complex in front
of 144 spectators.
In the first half, the Pioneers (0-3) defense
was solid stopping the Mean Green on 6 shots. Junior Sara Weaver
was tough between the posts with 8 saves in the game.
After halftime, the Mean Green scored first
at the 54:01 mark before adding two more goals within seven
minutes to take over the game.
“The first half
was great,”said head coach Fleur Benatar, “I
was happy and hoped that would continue in the second half
but we came out flat and got discouraged after the first
goal.”
The Pioneers had four shots, two in each period,
in the game. UNT had 13 corner kicks and TWU three, which were
all in the first half.
“Now we can use
this game as a standard, UNT is a good team but not five
goals better than us,”added Benatar.
TWU is back in action, Wednesday, Sept. 8,
at Dallas Baptist beginning at 7:00 p.m.
