BULLDOGS DEFEAT PIONEERS
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Texas Woman’s University basketball team fell to Southwestern Oklahoma State , 55-86, in Lone Star Conference crossover action as the Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field.
The loss snapped the Pioneers (5-3) three-game winning streak. SWOSU led from the opening tip and didn’t look back, jumping out to a 14-5 lead.
“This was a good learning experience for us early in the season. It was our first road trip against two conference schools and will prepare us for the rest of the year,” said head coach Devin Gabbard. “We didn’t do very well as a team overall. The players had finals on their mind and didn’t realize the details of the trip.”
TWU was within five points at the 8:07 mark but SWOSU responded with a 16-6 run to lead 44-29 at halftime. The Pioneers man-to-man defense struggled guarding the Bulldogs. SWOSU made 30-of-60 shots overall and 10-of-19 from behind the three-point line.
“They went on a couple of runs and we gave up a lot of wide open shots,” added Gabbard.
Megan McCrummen and Ashley Browning were the only Pioneers in double-digits. The duo was 6-for-13 from three-point land. McCrummen had 13 points and three assists. Browning scored 11 points and had a team-high nine rebounds.
“They played us in a zone the whole game. Megan and Ashley shot the ball well and at the right times in our offense,” said Gabbard.
Next, the Pioneers come back to Kitty Magee Arena to face Texas A&M-Kingsville Dec. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
