McBATH AND BROWNING NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE BASKETBALL TEAM

DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University basketball players Matalya McBath and Ashley Browning were named to the 2005 Lone Star Conference All-Conference team announced today by the league office.

McBath, a sophomore guard who transferred from Hill College , was named to the South Division second team. The Denton , Texas , native averaged 17 points, four rebounds and 3.8 steals a game. McBath led all Pioneer scorers in 16 of 26 games this season and reached double figures in all but seven games. McBath recorded a triple-double with 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. McBath also broke the TWU individual game (9) and season (100) steals records. In conference action, she averaged 18.4 points a contest. Currently, McBath is tied for the league scoring title, first in steals and third in assists.

Browning, a junior forward, earned honorable mention honors. The Plano , Texas , native averaged 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds a game. She had a season-best 20 points against Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma . Browning had two double-doubles this season as well.
