HUMPHRIES NAMED ESPN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

Texas – Sophomore Kelley Humphries of the Texas
Woman’s University basketball team was named to the 2005
ESPN Academic All-District VI College Division Women’s
Basketball Team.
A biology major with a pre-med emphasis, Humphries was named to the third team
with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
To qualify for the ESPN Academic All-America team, athletes must have over
a 3.20 cumulative GPA, be in their second year of competition at the institution
and be a starter or key substitute. The teams are selected by members of the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 The Coupland, Texas, native has started 20 of 22 games for the Pioneers this
season. She is averaging 3.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Humphries also serves as President of the TWU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
(SAAC). This past fall semester, SAAC collected cans to benefit the Denton
Chapter of the American Red Cross, adopted needy children who live on campus
and whose mothers attend TWU, and held an "Afternoon with Santa" Christmas
party in which toys were distributed to the children. SAAC raised the funds
for the toys, bought them, wrapped them and organized the party under Humphries’ leadership.
In addition, she is a member of the 2004 and 2005 TWU Dean’s List and
a recipient of a TWU Presidential Scholarship for graduating second in her
high school class. Humphries also receives a Kitty Magee Scholarship which
awards outstanding academic and athletics achievements.
