TWU FALLS TO MSU
WICHITA FALLS , Texas – The Texas Woman’s University basketball team’s offensive woes continued in a 54-77 setback to Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference action.
The Pioneers (9-11, 2-6) fell behind early to the Lady Indians and trailed by 17 at intermission.
“We really struggled on the offensive end tonight. If this team doesn’t play well offensively they don’t defensively either,” head coach Devin Gabbard said. “We have to score to defend. Turnovers also hurt us.”
TWU hit just 35.7 percent of their shots from the field and 17.6 percent from three-point land. MSU shot at a 49 percent clip and 50 percent from behind the arc.
“We are the best defensive and most athletic team in the league but we can’t take any nights off on that end,” added Gabbard.
Ashley Browning paced the offense with 17 points. Adriana Martin and Valery Redfearn added 13 and seven points, respectively. Martin led the rebounding effort with eight. Matalya McBath had six steals.
Next, TWU returns to Magee Arena for a four-game home stand. First up is Texas A&M-Commerce on Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
