PIONEERS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT CONFERENCE GAME

SAN ANGELO , Texas – Texas Woman’s University fell to No. 11 Angelo State in Lone Star Conference action, 85-73, as the Pioneer offense struggled again.

TWU (9-7, 2-2) shot just 25 percent in the first half and 38 percent in the game. The Pioneers had three players in double digits; Matalya McBath, Ashley Browning and Teneisha McKinney. The Rambelles had four players in double figures led by Natalja Tsurbakova with a game-high 28 points.

“We spotted the 22 points because we didn’t play defense. If we put two halves together and executed we would show up,” said head coach Devin Gabbard. “We need to put it together and execute. We have showed spurts of brilliance in the last four games.”

The Pioneers never led in the game. ASU led by as many as 23 points en route to victory.

“We were outscored 58-24 in the paint and all three of their post players were in double figures,” added Gabbard.

Browning led TWU with 16 points on the night. McBath added 14 points while McKinney had 13. Mandy Darwin and Browning had five caroms apiece.

TWU returns to Pioneer Hall on Jan. 27 to face Eastern New Mexico beginning at 7:00 p.m.
