BRONCHOS EDGE PIONEERS
EDMOND,
Okla. – In a tight Lone Star Conference crossover
contest, the Texas Woman’s University basketball team
fell to Central Oklahoma, 70-74.
The Pioneers (9-5, 2-0) finish LSC crossover action with a 3-4 record. The
match-up with the Bronchos (10-4) was game number five of a seven-game road
trip for the Pioneers.
“We just didn’t have much left after playing at Northeastern State
on Thursday. It was a weird game as far as our energy level,” said head
coach Devin Gabbard. “We played and shot really well. We just made some
bad decisions at times which let them back in the game.”
TWU led for the majority of the game but UCO finished both periods strong.
At the end of the first half a Matalya McBath turnover led to a Broncho lay-up
with 38 seconds remaining. The Pioneers turned the ball over again to trail,
32-34, at halftime.
In the second half, UCO took the lead for good at the 2:03 mark. Lindsey Wilson
scored six points for the Bronchos as TWU missed three shots and committed
two fouls to end the game.
“We have gotten into a habit of fouling and need to be more disciplined.
They were in the double bonus early in the second half,” added Gabbard. “Being
on the road has worn us out but we will get home and fix things.”
Ashley Browning led TWU with 20 points and three rebounds. McBath was the only
other Pioneer in double-digits with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists
and three steals. Lindsey McCutcheon paced TWU with six rebounds.
TWU returns to conference action at Abilene Christian on Jan. 20. Tip-off is
set for 7:00 p.m.
