October 2-4, Sruti Kanti Swara: Residency with
guest Balinese artists I Ketut Gede Asnawa and Ayu Putu Niastarika Asnawa. Ongoing. TWU Department of Music and Drama and Department of Dance.

October 4, Gamelan Naming Ceremony: Sruti Kanti Swara, featuring guest Balinese music and dance artists I Ketut Gede Asnawa, Ayu Putu Niastarika Asnawa and the TWU Gamelan Ensemble. 7:30 p.m., Margo Jones Performance Hall,
TWU Music Building.

October 6-21, Two Library Exhibits: The Art
and Symbols of Chinese Courtly Clothing: The Martha Rountree Collection; and Finding Asia in Children’s Literature. Ongoing,
Blagg-Huey Library.

October 7, Photography Exhibition and Lecture: Transformational Dialogues, Reiko Imoto, Osamu James Nakagawa and David Gibson explore emotional issues related to life, death, fear, beauty and transcendence. 4:00-5:30 p.m. lecture with artists, 5:30-6:30 p.m. opening reception. TWU Visual Arts Building.

October 7, Lecture-Recital: Korean Folk Music and Its Influence on Modern Art Music, by Dr. Soojeong Lee, soprano, and Dr. Jiyun Yoo, piano. 7:30 p.m., Margo Jones Performance Hall,

October 16, Music Student Showcase Recital: Works influenced by Asian themes, performed by TWU choral and instrumental ensembles and student soloists. 7:30 p.m., Margo Jones Performance Hall, TWU Music Building.

October 23, Piano Duo Lecture-Recital: Cage, Buddhism, Japan: Asian Influences in His Work and its Implications for Performance and Analysis, followed by a performance of Two2 by John Cage. Rob Haskins and Laurel Karlik Sheehan, pianists. 7:30 p.m., Margo Jones Performance Hall, TWU Music Building.

October 23-25, Drama Residency: Laura Jorgensen and Fred Curchack, performance artists. Ongoing. Redbud Theater. TWU Department of Music and Drama.

October 24-25, Drama Production: Monkey: The Quest to the West. A theatrical adaptation of one of the most beloved comic novels from China, The Journey to the West. A supernatural trickster, Monkey King is charged by Buddha to protect a Buddhist monk on a perilous journey full of outrageous misadventures. Created and performed by the critically acclaimed actors Laura Jorgensen and Fred Curchack. 7:30 p.m., Redbud Theater. Contact the box office for tickets and show times.

October 26-30, Dance Residency: Artist Cheng-Chieh Yu in residence in the Department of Dance. Yu’s provocative imagery and kinetics are steeped in postmodern dance techniques, fused with the martial arts of Tai Chi Chuan and Ba Gua Zhang. Ongoing. TWU Department of Dance.

October 30: Transforming the Arts, Breaking Boundaries Between East and West. This closing event begins with a guided tour of the Visual Arts galleries and ends with a lecture demonstration highlighting the dance artistry of Cheng-Chieh Yu. 4:00-4:45 p.m., guided tour starts in foyer, TWU Visual Arts Building; 5:00-6:00 p.m. dance lecture-demonstration, Margo Jones Performance Hall, TWU Music Building
