It is really amazing to have the opportunity to work at Child Protective Services. In the Academy I was provided with information that would assist me in my daily work in protecting children. Also in the Academy, I learned the importance of knowing the stages of child development to better understand the signs of child abuse. Child Protective Services is an awesome place to work.

I am enjoying being a IV-E student. I have always thought of CPS as thankless, unappreciated work. My internship has taught me that while it could be, there are also many rewards to the job. I get to work with great people, and help families who need it. I am seeing many facets of social work with CPS; I don’t think that I could have chosen an internship that would better prepare me for a career.

I feel it is very important for social workers in the Child Welfare field to participate in this program because not only does it help social workers in continuing education, it serves as a reward for all our hard work and motivates us to develop our skills and gain greater levels of expertise in the Social Work field.  My experiences have been rewarding so far and it makes me joyful to know that as a social worker and participant in this program, I can empower the lives of children and their families.

 Stephanie Chavez

My name is Stephanie Chavez. Thus far I have been lucky enough to receive my own offices, computer, and phone, but I hear that this is rare.  My On the Job Training (OJT) office is located in Tarrant County on Camp Bowie Blvd and my specialty track training will consist of Conservatorship or on-going casework.  This means that I will be assigned cases following the investigation stage and becoming the primary worker for both the children involved and the parents/guardians. My job will in a sense be to offer any services to the family in order to obtain safe and secure permanency and well-being for the children.  Someday soon I will be someone’s CVS caseworker.  Someone to protect the unprotected, find ways to get it done, manage outcomes, focus on customer service (clients), and value our people (everyone).  I am becoming DFPS!
