Academic Program

Academic programs lead to the Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics or the Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics or computer science. The department offers specialized degree plans for students wishing to pursue mathematics careers in math education, computational math, statistics, or engineering or computer science careers in information technology or programming/software engineering. Certification to teach in public schools in Texas is available in mathematics for the EC through 4,  4 through 8, and 8 through 12 grade levels, and in computer science for the secondary level.

At TWU, 3+2/Dual Degree programs are available with Texas A&M University at College Station and with the University of Texas at Dallas. These programs give the TWU student the opportunity to study mathematics at TWU for 3 years and then transfer to a college of engineering to study a field of engineering for 2 years. Students will then receive two degrees - one in mathematics from TWU and one in engineering from the participating engineering university. Students may also participate in TWU's "fast track" program designed for those interested in a master's degree in electrical or computer engineering at Texas Tech, Texas A&M, or UT-Dallas. Substantial financial assistance is available for qualified students through Scholarships and Internships provided by Texas Instruments.

The TWU Department of Mathematics and Computer Science also offers excellent programs of advanced study. Graduate level studies are offered through the department leading to the Master of Science in Mathematics Teaching, Master of Arts and Master of Science degrees in mathematics. Students interested in computer science, applied statistics, or statistical programming may design a degree plan leading to the M.S. in Mathematics that prepares them for careers or further study in these exciting and lucrative fields.
