Organizations
Students in the
English, Speech & Foreign Languages Department have several
opportunities to interact with others who have similar interests,
including faculty. At this time, our faculty lead three such
organizations, with students likewise finding opportunities for
leadership roles, as well as spaces for exercising their own voices.
Omega Rho Alpha
English Honors Society
Omega Rho Alpha is a
student organization open to freshman and sophomore students
majoring in English.
Students may join if they meet ONE of the following requirements:

Receive an "A" in a
Freshman or Sophomore English course other than English 1003 or
writing lab, or
-
Be an English major,
or
-
Have had literary
compositions published in college literary periodicals or
presented at programs honoring student writers, or
-
Qualify for Honors
English

Sigma Tau Delta International
English Honor Society
Beta Epsilon Chapter
Purpose:
Sigma Tau Delta's central purpose is to confer distinction
upon outstanding students of the English language and
literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional
studies. Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments
of professional writers who have contributed to the fields
of language and literature.
Eligibility:
Must be an English major or minor, a junior, senior, or
graduate student, and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Sigma Delta Pi National
Hispanic Honor Society
Xi Epsilon Chapter
Sigma Delta Pi is open
to Junior, Senior, and Graduate students minoring in
Spanish. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Sigma
Delta Pi was established on November 14, 1919 at the
University of California at Berkeley. Its insignia is
the royal seal of Fernando and Isabel, representing Castille,
León, and Aragón. The
Society's colors are red and gold, and its flower is the red
carnation.

English and Rhetoric Graduate Student
Organization
Simone Rieck is the
President of ERGO for 2007-08, and the group has regular
meetings to discuss issues affecting graduate students in
the department.
