The following guidelines and requirements apply for those seeking teacher certification in English at Texas Woman's University:

 

§         All work to be applied toward degree completion must be completed with a grade of 'C' or better.

§         At least 9 hours of upper division courses in English must be completed at TWU.

§         Students seeking Teacher Certification in English at TWU will complete the following curriculum:

ü      6 hours: ENG 1013 Composition I and ENG 1023 Composition II

ü      3 hours: Sophomore literature

ü      3 hours: SPCH 1013 Oral Communication

ü      9 hours: English Literature

·         ENG 3013 Representative Works of British Literature to 1760

·         ENG 3023 Representative Works of British Literature from 1760 to Present

·         3 hours Advanced English Literature

ü      6 hours: TExEs Requirements (must be completed with a ‘B’ or better)

·         ENG 3203 Advanced Grammar and Composition

·         ENG 3243 Literary Analysis and Criticism

ü      6 hours: American Literature

·         ENG 3283 Survey of American Literature: Colonial through Romantic

·         ENG 3293 Survey of American Literature: Realism to the Present

ü      3 hours: ENG 4333 Introduction to the Study of World Literature

ü      3 hours: Linguistics

·         ENG 3303 The English Language: Development, Nature, and Structure,

·         ENG 3363 Introduction to Linguistics, or

·         ENG 3373 Contrastive Linguistics

ü      3 hours: RDG 3013 Literature across the Curriculum

ü      9 hours: Electives. Any upper division English courses

§         The student seeking certification in 8-12 English/Language Arts, must also complete the education minor. Please refer to the College of Professional Education section. Students seeking certification must follow specific admission standards for COPE.
