Project ACCELERATE is a professional development program sponsored by the Office of English Language Acquisition of the U.S. Department of Education that prepares FWISD in-service 4th, 5th grade or secondary content area teachers to improve academic achievement, literacy and language development of English language learners by advancing instruction that is aligned with Texas’ English Language Proficiency Standards, content area standards and required assessments.
Project ACCELERATE pays tuition and fees for participants to complete 9 graduate credit hours (3 courses) to be taken during 3 consecutive semesters (spring, summer and fall). The class sessions for the 3 courses are either online or meet on site in Fort Worth. The 3 courses are:
- Teaching in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Environments for ACCELERATE Secondary Content Area Teachers
- Second-Language Acquisition: Theories and Practices
- Teaching English as a Second Language – Methods
Project ACCELERATE participants receive a stipend from the FWISD for instructional materials to support instruction of ELLs, and are reimbursed for the TExES ESL Endorsement.
Project ACCELERATE participants are paid an additional stipend to present training to other teachers on their campuses upon completion of the 3 courses.
