Named for the founder of Mount Holyoke, the first (1837) woman’s college in the U.S., two MARY MASON LYON AWARDS are presented annually to recognize those individuals among the TWU junior faculty who are developing excellent records of teaching, research, and service and who evidence dedication to their careers and promise for success in the future. Recipients receive a $750 cash award and the option of presenting an academic paper to the faculty. The Faculty Awards Committee seeks nominations from the Denton, Dallas, and Houston centers for consideration in choosing the two individuals for the year 2010 awards.
ELIGIBILITY:

Nominee must have served on the TWU faculty at least three (3) years but not more than seven (7) years as of September, 2009. Nominee must be junior to the profession with no more than ten (10) years of recorded university teaching.

The nomination must include evidence of the nominee’s commitment to the teaching profession and to TWU. Evidence may include a syllabi and evaluations for courses taught for the last three years and any new courses developed during the last three years.

Nominations must include statements of total years of TWU faculty service and total years of university teaching.

A written explanation of how the nominee facilitates learning and develops his/her excellence in teaching.

Nominee must be developing a record of outstanding scholarship, teaching, and service.
NOMINATION PROCEDURE:

Nominations must include a nominating letter and no more than three (3) supporting letters from a variety of individuals such as students, peers, supervisors, etc. that address the award criteria.

Nominations must include the nominee’s current curriculum vitae on the approved TWU vita template.

Submit all nomination materials electronically as Word, Excel or .pdf attachments (including letters of support), each attachment labeled with:

the award name,

the nominee’s name,

and the identifying information about the document (e.g., vita)
