Texas Woman’s University offers eight yearly Faculty Awards. Notifications of external awards such as the Case Outstanding Teaching Award are made on a regular basis by the Associate Provost.

The following guidelines are designed to assist individuals and components in formulating nomination packets for the Faculty Awards at TWU. The Faculty Awards Committee encourages Deans, Chairs, and Faculty to begin the nomination process early as support letters and other documentation can take some time to compile.  Persons nominating a faculty member for an award may be approached to consider extending that nomination to apply for an additional internal and/or external award that the committee considers an appropriate match.  Individuals who were nominated unsuccessfully last year and who will be re-nominated for the same award this year may request that any materials retained on file from last year be resubmitted with updates. An entirely new nomination packet is not required.

At the beginning of the Spring term, nominations are requested for awards presented at Convocation in April.  Copies of the latest announcements for each of these awards are enclosed. The TWU Faculty Awards committee reviews nominations and makes recommendations for these awards to the Chancellor who makes the final selection.

General guidelines

Please note:   Faculty Award nominations must be sent as email attachments to the Office of the Associate Provost, ACT 10th floor
c/o Nora Sierra nsierra@twu.edu.

  1. The committee requests that one individual be responsible for gathering all materials needed for an award.  With the approval of the nominee, the nominating individual may request the nomination materials on file from the previous year.  When considering nominees, look carefully at the requirements for the award and at the materials requested to support the nomination.  For example, it is not worthwhile to nominate an outstanding research professor for a teaching award unless you document that the person is also an outstanding teacher.
  2. The deadline for nominations is firm.  Please allow enough time to write a careful and thorough nomination letter that addresses the requirements of the award. Gather all information into one packet and submit it electronically to the Office of the Provost. Be sure that all materials are in the electronic file and clearly marked.
  3. Ask that letters of recommendation be addressed correctly as outlined on each award and that the correct number of letters be included (letters may be scanned as pdf files). In general, the nomination letter does NOT count as a letter of recommendation.  Do not exceed the number of letters of support or recommendation required by the specific award.
  4. The quality of the application is very important.  All vitas must be submitted according to the vita template approved by TWU. Spell check is essential. The committee has recommended that packets that include spelling and grammar errors be returned to the sponsor for resubmission another year.
