Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
All new students, unless otherwise exempt, must be tested to assess readiness for freshman level work in reading, writing, and mathematics prior to enrolling in college-level coursework. TWU uses Accuplacer as well as THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment), Asset, and Compass for assessment purposes. This assessment process is known as the Texas Success Initiative or TSI Plan.
Placement Tests
The purpose of departmental placement tests is to assess the abilities and skills of each student in order to place them in appropriate classes. Placement tests are required for incoming (freshman or transfer) students who are not exempt. Placement tests are taken prior to being advised, and are part of orientation. Please remember that these are FREE of charge to all TWU students.
Even though you may be exempt from TSI that does not mean that you are exempt from taking internal placement tests. If you are a transfer student and have taken placement exams elsewhere, you will still be required to take them here at TWU, unless you are exempt otherwise.
