You have just gotten your acceptance letter, congratulations; but I am sure you are wondering what to do next.  We have put together some information (for you and your parents) to help ease your transition.

Step 1. Check on your Texas Success Initiative (TSI) status.

All new students, unless otherwise exempt, must be tested to assess readiness for freshman level work in reading, writing, and mathematics prior to enrolling in college-level coursework.  TWU uses Accuplacer, THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) as well as ASSET, and Compass for assessment purposes.  This assessment process is known as the Texas Success Initiative or TSI Plan.

  • TSI test information and resources.
  • Please see the following test dates for Accuplacer or THEA.

Step 2. Sign up for an orientation.

All freshmen (under 21 hours) are required to attend New Student Orientation.  At Orientation, you will take any placement tests needed and meet with a college Advisor, who will guide you in choosing classes.

Transfer students also have an orientation.

Step 3. Placement Exams

Now that you are signed up for Orientation, you may be wondering if you have to take any placement tests, and if so which ones.

Step 4. Come to Orientation!

The big day is here...you are finally coming to Orientation!  Be sure to bring: a copy of any updated ACT/SAT scores, Accuplacer, THEA, etc., extra transcripts, especially if you did coursework during the summer or have dual-credit.   We'll see you at Orientation!
