Multicultural counseling workshop scheduled at TWU

DENTON — Multicultural counseling competence is the focus of an upcoming workshop at Texas Woman’s University.
“Multicultural Counseling Competence: Putting Theory & Ethics into Practice” will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 28 in room 202 of the Classroom and Faculty Office Building (CFO). Charles R. Ridley, Ph.D., professor of counseling psychology at Texas A&M University, is the featured speaker for the workshop. His book, “Overcoming Unintentional Racism in Counseling and Therapy: A Practitioner’s Guide to International Intervention,” was the recipient of the Gus Meyers Center Award for Human Rights.
The workshop is geared toward graduate students in mental health fields as well as social workers, psychologists, counselors, marriage and family therapists and others whose work involves interacting with individuals in groups from diverse cultural backgrounds. All those attending will receive 6 clock hours (.6 CEUs) from TWU. These continuing education credits will be accepted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors, Texas State Board for Social Worker Examiners and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
The workshop is sponsored by the TWU Office of Lifelong Learning and the Federation of North Texas Area Universities.
