sees seventh consecutive year of enrollment growth

DENTON —
Enrollment at Texas Woman’s University has risen for
the seventh consecutive year, according to preliminary 12th
class day data, with a record 12,469 students enrolled for
fall 2008. This marks a 2.5 percent increase from last fall.
More importantly,
this preliminary data indicates that TWU’s total semester
credit hours grew 1.9 percent to 122,235 hours, up from 119,956
last fall — also a record. Student credit hours, not
headcount, determine the university’s state total funding.
“We are very
pleased that our programs continue to attract students who
recognize the high quality and outstanding value of a TWU
education,” TWU Provost Dr. Kay Clayton said.
Preliminary numbers
place TWU’s Hispanic enrollment at 1,825 students, an
increase of 5.7 percent from fall 2007. TWU’s Hispanic
enrollment increased 83.8 percent from 2002 to 2007, the fourth-highest
among public universities in Texas.
U.S. News and
World Report magazine ranks TWU second in the state and
15th in the nation among universities with the most diverse
student populations.
From 2002-07, TWU’s
enrollment grew 36 percent, the fourth-highest enrollment
growth percentage among universities in Texas.
