2/20/07
DENTON —
Dr. Marcia Hern, dean of the Texas Woman’s University
College of Nursing, recently was elected as president-elect
of the Texas Organization for Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing
Education (TOBGNE).
The TOBGNE is the
voice for baccalaureate and graduate degree nursing education
programs in Texas. The organization promotes standards of
excellence in nursing education programs, thereby promoting
high quality health care in Texas.
Dr. Hern will begin
her term as president-elect in September, and will become
president of the organization in September 2008.
“It is an
honor to be selected from such a talented group of nursing
leaders across the state of Texas that continues to examine
creative strategies to address the nursing and faculty shortage,”
she said.
Dr. Hern joined
TWU as dean of the College of Nursing in 2004. She previously
served a director of nursing for the Cincinnati Children’s
Division of Developmental Disabilities and executive director
for community outreach and development for the University
of Cincinnati College of Nursing.
She holds a bachelor
of science in nursing from The Ohio State University in Columbus
and both a master of science in nursing and a doctorate in
educational administration from the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Hern, a clinical
nurse specialist in pediatric nursing, has focused her research
on adolescent and youth health promotion and risk-taking behaviors,
including genetic risk information. She has several publications
and presentations to her credit and has helped secure a number
of grants, including a $550,000 grant from the Helene Fuld
Health Trust Fund for Baccalaureate Nursing Students in 2006.
Dr. Hern is the
TWU College of Nursing representative to the American Association
of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and is a member of the Southwest
Nursing Research Society and the International Society of
Nurses in Genetics. She also serves on the Presbyterian Hospital
of Denton Governing Board of Trustees.
