Gabriel Bita to
perform piano recital at TWU
1/30/07
DENTON
— A historical variety of European music, from the early
19th to the middle of the 20th century, will be featured in
a solo piano recital by Texas Woman’s University accompanist
Gabriel Bita. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday,
Feb. 12, in the Margo Jones Performance Hall, located at Oakland
Street and Pioneer Circle on TWU’s Denton campus. The
event is free and open to the public. For more information,
call (940) 898-2500.
The
recital will open with Franz Schubert’s “Impromptu
in A-flat major, op. 90, no. 4,” which was among the
composer’s last works. Mr. Bita also will perform Robert
Schumann’s “Kreisleriana, op. 16,” which
the composer dedicated to Frederic Chopin. “Each movement
shows a two-sided dramatic inner conflict, which represented
Schumann’s soul throughout his life,” Mr. Bita
said.
Mr.
Bita will close the recital with Sergei Prokofiev’s
“Piano Sonata no. 7 in B-flat major, op. 83,”
written in 1942. “The sonata is widely acclaimed to
be one of Prokofiev’s greatest works ever written; not
just for its great timing and form, but its depth and imagery
of the struggle, savagery and machine-like aspects of World
War II,” Mr. Bita said.
