Procedure for International Applicants

You must apply through the graduate school to TWU.  All international applications must be sent to the International Education Office and transcripts (mark sheets) will be evaluated.  They send the application to the departments to decide on admission.  We have a faculty committee who reviews the applications and makes a recommendation to the Dean of the Graduate school.  We look at such things as: completeness of Biology background, chemistry courses, and lab experience.

The International Education Office also handles all of the requirements for obtaining an I-20 form that is necessary to get a visa.  You must do everything they say in order to meet all of the new government regulations; in particular, you must show adequate financial support.

Most of our international students work as graduate teaching assistants. To do this you must earn a score of 50 or better on the Test of Spoken English (TSE).  This exam is administered by the same people that administer the TOEFL.  This is a requirement of the State of Texas and we cannot hire you without this score.  I recommend that you take the TSE before coming to the US.  The application form is on-line.  You can apply for admission for the Spring semester, but most of the teaching assistantships will carry over from the Fall semester and I cannot guarantee that one will be available for the Spring semester.

All of the application forms are on the TWU web-site.  Please go the graduate school page and to the International Education Office page for the necessary information.  In addition to those forms, the Biology department requires 2 things:  a letter from you stating your career goals and ambitions and three letters of recommendation from professors who are familiar with your work.  These should be sent to me at the address below.  There is no recommendation form, just the letters.
