Loans of Herbarium
Specimens
Free exchange of information and
resources between the TWU Herbarium and other herbaria and institutions is encouraged.
Sending specimens by mail greatly facilitate this exchange of information.
A loan of specimens is made in response
to a written request by established botanical institutions for use in valid
scientific projects. Loans are made to institutions and not to individuals for
a period of time of up to one year and they can be extended. All pertinent loan
data are maintained in the 'Loan Record' book by the Curator. Specimens will
be prepared and packed by the Herbarium staff according to accepted practices
for botanical specimens. Loans will be accompanied by a loan agreement that
outlines the terms of the loan and a list of the specimens being sent. By signing
the loan agreement, the borrower promises to treat the borrowed specimens with
care and respect. Failure to do so will result in a loss of borrowing privileges
to the investigator and possibly to his/her institution.
