Texas Woman's University Herbarium

After having been dormant for over 50 years, the TWU Herbarium began to be resurrected in 2000 and will be open for use in 2003. The collection has two parts: on-going and newly added specimens, and an historical collection containing specimens donated by well-known Texas collectors and botanists from 1903 to 1947. This historical collection is particularly valuable for the information it provides concerning the flora of several areas in Texas (Dallas-Fort Worth-Denton, Austin-Houston, and Big Bend National Park) at the beginning of the last century. For a more extensive history and description of the Herbarium collection, go to the History and Mission page.

Contact Information:

The Herbarium is located on the third floor of the Graduate Research Building (GRB R324), Denton Campus.

Any person wishing to use specimens in the collection must contact Dr. Camelia Maier, Herbarium Curator, for permission to use the collection. Use of the Herbarium is by prior arrangement only and restricted to normal working hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday). For more information on policies of use, go to the Use Policies page.
