TWU celebrates
Women’s Health Week

DENTON —
A Women’s Health Fair scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 21
at Texas Woman’s University will feature information
and health screenings for men as well as women.
The health fair,
sponsored by the TWU Department of Health Education, will
take place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in room 207 of the TWU
Student Union, located on the southwest corner of Bell Avenue
and Administration Drive on TWU’s Denton campus. The
event, which marks Women’s Health Week, has no admission
fee and is open to the public. For more information, call

Lone Star Screening
will provide male and female profiles for $45 each. A female
profile includes a complete blood count (CBC), comprehensive
metabolic panel (kidney, liver, bone and muscle functions),
a full lipid panel (cholesterol) and a comprehensive thyroid
panel. The male profile includes the CBC, comprehensive metabolic
panel, full lipid panel and a PSA (prostate cancer screen).
Cholesterol screenings
requiring finger-stick testing will be $15 for total cholesterol
or $25 for a full lipid panel, which includes total cholesterol,
LDL, HDL, triglycerides, risk ratio and glucose.
Fasting (water
permitted only) for eight to 10 hours prior to testing is
required for all the tests.
Other vendors at
the health fair will include the TWU Counseling Center, TWU
Fitness and Recreation, TWU Student Health Services, the Osteoporosis
Center of Denton, Family Health Care Inc., Mary Kay Cosmetics,
Moore Chiropractic Center, Woman to Woman Pregnancy Resource
Center and massage therapists.
Also in conjunction
with Women’s Health Week, Methodist Mobile Mammography
will conduct screenings from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday,
Sept. 20 in TWU’s visitors parking lot, located north
of the Student Union. The cost is $99, and all major insurance
claims will be filed. Call 1-800-727-6131 to schedule an appointment.
