TWU Sculptor’s
Artwork Explores Intrigue Of The Sea
10/29/04
DENTON — The
pulse of the natural force of the sea is captured in a video installation
of artwork by Tanya Synar, the new sculpture faculty member in the
Texas Woman’s University Department of Visual Arts.
“The Sea,”
an installation involving video, audio and running water, and “Source
Crossing,” an observation of water and its relationship to
light and movement, will be on exhibit Nov. 3-23 in the West Fine
Arts Gallery, located at Oakland and Texas streets on TWU’s
Denton campus. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through
Friday, and admission is free. A reception for the artist is scheduled
from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12. For more information, call (940)
898-2530.
Synar’s work was
inspired by her yearly pilgrimages to the rugged Pacific Northwest
coastline.
“My goal is to
capture a hypnotic yet challenging side of the sea and still leave
room for the breadth and nature of the experience to be personalized
through the spectator,” she said. “We search for pattern
to situate ourselves in the world. It is the nature of the search
that intrigues me.”
