11/01/05
DENTON —
Dr. Carolyn Gunning has been appointed provost and vice president
for academic affairs at Texas Woman’s University. Dr.
Gunning has served as the TWU interim provost since May.
“This is
a dynamic time for TWU. We are in the midst of strategic planning
and preparing to open a new campus in Houston, while continuing
to meet the academic needs of a growing student body,”
said TWU President andChancellor
Dr. Ann Stuart. “For these reasons and because I respect
the leadership and work of Dr. Gunning, I invited her to remain
in the position of provost for an extended period of time
and she accepted.”
Dr. Gunning served
as interim provost during the 2003-2004 academic year and
as the dean of TWU’s College of Nursing from 1991 to
2003. She also served as dean of the Marshall University School
of Nursing.
Dr. Gunning earned
her bachelor of science degree in nursing from TWU, her master
of science degree in medical-surgical nursing from the University
of Colorado and her doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction
from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a recipient

Award, the TWU Award for Meritorious Service and the Texas

“I started
my professional life at TWU 40 years ago as a nursing student
and I am proud to work with the excellent faculty, staff and
students as the university continues to grow and excel,”
Dr. Gunning said.
