Debussy To Be Topic Of Lecture/Concert At TWU
4/9/03
DENTON — Music, art, poetry and aroma will combine for a powerful experience
in "Claude Debussy: Painter of Music," a lecture/concert by Dr. Richard
Shuster, assistant professor of piano at Texas Woman’s University. The
event will take place at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 in the Margo Jones Performance
Hall, located at Oakland and Sawyer streets on TWU’s Denton campus. Admission
is free.
The presentation will include a brief lecture about the Impressionist painters
and the Symbolist poets, as well as synesthesia, the color of sound and unification
of the arts. A slide presentation will feature nearly 100 images of art fading
in and out with the changing colors and phrases of the music during a complete
performance of Debussy’s "Preludes, Book I."
Shuster recently completed his doctor of musical arts degree at the Eastman
School of Music at the University of Rochester (New York), where he received
a graduate fellowship award. He also was a Fulbright Fellow at the Franz Liszt
Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary.
