Brown to perform organ recital at TWU
9/21/05
DENTON —
Dr. Thomas K. Brown, professor of organ and piano at Texas
Woman’s University, will perform his 37th annual campus
recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, in the Margo Jones
Performance Hall, located at Oakland and Sawyer streets on
TWU’s Denton campus. Admission is free. For more information,
call (940) 898-2500.
The eclectic program
will feature well-known compositions as well as lesser-heard
works. Dr. Brown will open the recital with three compositions
by Dietrich Buxtehude and also will perform Cesar Franck’s
“Pastorale,” which the composer dedicated to his
friend and noted organ builder Astride Cavaille-Coll.
Dr. Pamela Youngblood,
TWU professor of music, will join Dr. Brown for three compositions
by Alice Jordan, Josef Doppelbauer and Marcelle Villin.
The final compositions
are opposites in style and mood, from the romantic “Adagio
in E Major” by Frank Bridge to Argentinian composer
Alberto Ginastera’s “Toccata, Villancio, y Fuga.”
Dr. Brown has been
the university’s organist since 1981. He also has been
a professional church musician (organist-director) for more
than 40 years and is an active organ recitalist.
