Bonnici Named Director of TWU Library School
5/7/02
DENTON Dr. Laurie J. Bonnici, a visiting assistant
professor at Florida State University, has been appointed
director of the School of Library and Information Services at
Texas Woman's University, effective June 1.
Bonnici will succeed current director Dr. Keith Swigger, who
also serves as dean of TWU's College of Professional Education.
Swigger said Bonnici is smart, capable and energetic,
and she brings a new set of skills necessary in reshaping library
services to meet client needs. Among those skills, he said,
is the fact that she is bilingual (fluent in Spanish) and is
proficient in multimedia and online learning programs.
Bonnici has taught courses relating to management and
applications of information technology, information policy,
multimedia and networks. Her research explores the impact of
interactive technologies on learning, collaborative learning
models and leadership.
Bonnici earned her doctorate in information studies at FSU in
2001 and her master's in library and information studies from the
University of South Florida in Tampa in 1996. She also earned a
graduate certificate in public management from Indiana University
in Fort Wayne in 1988.
Bonnici said she looks forward to joining the faculty at TWU's
School of Library and Information Studies.
The school has been a stable entity among the 50 ALA
(American Library Association) accredited schools for many
years, she said. I look forward to working with the
faculty to move the school to the forefront of LIS education.
The library and information profession is a field in
high demand, both in the arena of practice and LIS
education, Bonnici added. On that note, we will be
working to increase enrollment in both the master's and doctoral
degree programs. There are many opportunities on the road
ahead.
