8/13/02
DENTON Artwork created by Texas Woman's University
alumni and students will be installed this week in the recently
renovated Arts and Sciences Building. The works will be unveiled
to the public on Aug. 22 during a ceremony to commemorate the
completion of the $4.5 million renovation project.
The Aug. 22 ceremony will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the
courtyard adjacent to the Arts and Sciences Building, located
near the intersection of Oakland Avenue and Third Street.
Original construction on ASB was completed in 1960, and the
renovation project began two years ago to update the 48,163
square-foot building.
Four pieces by TWU alumna Michele Mikesell will hang in ASB.
They are: The Lower Pecos, Speed Racer and Boxcar 54321,
all oil paintings, and I Cannot Relate This To My Conduct On
Mars, a watercolor and ink piece.
Three acrylics by alumna Mary Haviland to be hung: Food For
Thought, Chessnuts and Ready To Travel.
The installation also will include student work: an acrylic by
Krispen Spencer titled Earthrise and an oil painting by
Jason Yaw titled Lysate.
The renovated Arts and Sciences Building includes three
computer labs, a lecture room, three seminar rooms and 13
classrooms. Along with classroom facilities, ASB also is home to
the College of Nursing, which averages 1,400 students and is the
largest nursing program in the state of Texas, and the Center for
Nonlinear Research. Other amenities in ASB include a research and
reading room for graduate students and a student lounge with
study space.
Randall Scott Architects of Dallas is the architect for the
project. Constructors Inc. of Dallas is the general contractor.
