TWU
recognized as largest higher education team for the 2008 Komen
Dallas Race
10/20/08
DENTON/DALLAS
— Texas Woman’s University was recognized as having
the largest team participating in the higher education category
during the 2008 Komen Dallas Race for the Cure® held Oct.
18.
TWU had more than
200 students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends take part
in the race. The team, known as the “Pioneers for the
Cure,” raised more than $7,500 in registration fees
and donations for the event.
“Supporting
the Race for the Cure® is a natural fit for TWU,”
said Stephanie Mitchell, a supervisor in the TWU fitness and
recreation department and the team captain. “Many TWU
students will be the healthcare providers of people with breast
cancer. And many on our team have a personal connection to
the cause, either having lost someone to the disease or are
survivors themselves.”
Overall, TWU students,
alumni, faculty and staff raised more than $10,000 for Susan
G. Komen for the Cure® with their participation in the
Houston and Dallas races. The TWU Houston team also was recognized
as having the largest collegiate team for the Houston Komen
Race held Oct. 4.
“The fact
that so many from the TWU community walked and donated money
shows how much this important cause means to them,”
Ms. Mitchell said.
