TWU’s Sanborn honored by Texas Chapter of the American
College of Sports Medicine
7/10/07

DENTON —
Dr. Charlotte (Barney) Sanborn, professor of kinesiology at
Texas Woman’s University, recently received the 2007
Honor Award from the Texas Chapter of the American College
of Sports Medicine (TACSM).
Since 1992, the
TACSM has given the Honor Award to recognize an individual
who has made outstanding contributions to exercise science
and sports medicine while working in the state of Texas.
“It was truly
an honor to receive the award and also humbling to be recognized
by TACSM,” Dr. Sanborn said. “The Texas Chapter
is one of the premiere chapters of ACSM and has a rich history
of leaders in the field of sports medicine.”
Dr. Sanborn conducts
research on childhood obesity, women’s health, osteoporosis
and athletic amenorrhea. She has taught at TWU for almost
20 years and currently serves as the chair of the TWU Kinesiology
Department. She is active in numerous professional organizations
and served as the research coordinator for the TWU Growing
with EASE (Eating, Activity, Self-Esteem) — a transdisciplinary
team of researchers/educators devoted to the prevention or
amelioration of childhood obesity.
TACSM is a regional
chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
ACSM is a multi-disciplinary professional and scientific society
dedicated to the generation and dissemination of knowledge
concerning the motivations, responses, adaptations and health
aspects of persons engaged in sport and exercise. The largest
sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world,
ACSM has over 20,000 members worldwide.
