TWU nursing
faculty to attend Vienna Symposium

HOUSTON – Several nursing faculty at Texas Woman’s
University’s Nelda C. Stark College of Nursing will
present abstracts during the 18th International Nursing Research
Congress Focusing on Evidence-Based Practice, scheduled July
11- 14 in Vienna, Austria.
The symposium,
titled “Student to Nurse: A Cohort Study to Predict
Success of Nursing Students,” is sponsored by Sigma
Theta Tau International. TWU Associate Nursing Professor Dr.
Anne Young organized the symposium.
Earline Moreland,
nursing lab administrator, will present “A Theory Driven
Research Study to Better Prepare the Future Nursing Workforce:
The Methods.” Co-authors of the abstract are Dr. Judith
McFarlane, professor, and Dr. Ann Malecha, associate professor.
Assistant Professor Ann St. Germain will present “The
Influence of Psychological Empowerment and Stress Resiliency
on Nursing Student Success,” co-authored with Dr. Young
and Dr. Peggy Landrum, associate clinical professor.
Associate Professor
Dr. Robin Britt will present “An Examination of Health
Status, Perception of Faculty Support, Posttraumatic Stress
and Nursing Student Stress as Predictors of Student Nurse
Academic Performance.” Co- authors of the abstract are
Dr. Chris Hawkins, associate professor; Dr. Sandy Cesario,
professor; Dr. Malecha; and Dr. Michelle Dorin, visiting assistant
professor.
Drs. Young and
Cesario also have a poster presentation titled, “Using
Debate as a Method to Foster Critical Thinking in Nursing
Doctoral Students.” Dr. Cesario also is the second author
on a paper presentation with TWU doctoral student Nena Bonuel
titled, “Acuity Adaptable: Patient Room of the Future.”
