10/24/06
DENTON —
The works of internationally known artists Nancy Blum, Barb
Bondy and Moira Scott Payne will be featured in “Elaborate
Patterns,” an exhibition scheduled Nov. 7-Dec. 1 in
the Texas Woman’s University West Gallery. An opening
reception will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov.
7 in the gallery, located in the Fine Arts Building at Texas
and Oakland streets on TWU’s Denton campus. Gallery
hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Friday. For more information, call (940) 898-2530.
Works by Blum,
a New York City artist, combine painting, drawing and screen-printing.
Suspended from floor to ceiling, the series spans the length
of the gallery wall. The colorful print fields were created
under fellowship from the Lower East Side Printshop in New
York.
Bondy’s intricate
graphite drawings develop out of thoughts on art, philosophy
and science. Bondy, assistant professor of art/exhibitions
and lectures coordinator at Auburn University in Alabama,
explores how the brain/mind forms an individual’s experience
of the world.
Clothes, magazines,
rugs and homes all become fodder for the creation of pattern
in Payne’s paintings. Each painting describes confusion,
complexity of lives and seductions of design. Payne is a fine-art
researcher at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design
in Scotland.
